| CRFA fights soaring dairy prices |
|
(Nov. 17/09) Once again, CRFA will be heading to the Canadian Dairy Commission’s (CDC’s) annual review on Nov. 30 to challenge increases in 2010 dairy prices.
The exorbitant cost of Canadian dairy continues to frustrate our industry. When the CDC consistently raises the price of industrial milk – which is used to make products such as cheese, butter, yogurt and ice cream – they make it harder for restaurateurs to include dairy products on their menus.
CRFA will convey two key requests to the Minister of Agriculture and the CDC Commissioners:
- Roll back dairy prices to more realistic levels; and
- Implement fair cheese pricing so that fresh pizza makers can purchase cheese at the same price as frozen pizza makers.
Rising dairy prices have been a longstanding issue. Without CRFA action and continued member participation, these prices would be even higher than they are today.
