(Nov. 26/10) Despite Premier Campbell’s resignation, CRFA continues to work with the B.C. government on various issues – including the HST, menu labelling and the new impaired driving legislation.
Meeting with Health Minister
On Nov. 16, CRFA and a group of restaurant chains persuaded Health Minister Kevin Falcon to work with the industry on voluntary healthy dining initiatives instead of pursuing menu labelling regulations. At the meeting, CRFA provided an update on its Healthy Living Strategy and explained the challenges with nutrition disclosure regulations.
Meeting with Finance Minister
That same day, CRFA met with Minister of Finance Colin Hansen on CRFA’s pre-budget submission, the state of the industry and policy priorities.
CRFA was informed that as the B.C. Liberal Party Leadership vote takes place on Feb. 26, the Feb. 15 budget will contain few, if any, new policy initiatives. The 15 per cent income tax cut promised by the Premier before he resigned was also cancelled – the new Premier will decide whether to move forward with this tax cut.
CRFA action moving forward
As candidates join the BC Liberal Party leadership race to replace Premier Campbell, CRFA will ask to meet with them to discuss their platform and how it helps the province’s foodservice industry.
