| Just say no: HST campaign delivers message in B.C. |
|
(Jan. 18/10) Thanks to the efforts of British Columbia members and their staff, the No Meal Tax consumer campaign has been a tremendous success so far.
Since the campaign’s launch in mid-December:
- more than 140,000 British Columbians and counting have signed the No Meal Tax petitions;
- many petitioners have also separately asked their local MLA and MP to exempt restaurant meals from HST; and
- almost 4,000 people have joined the No Meal Tax Facebook group to oppose the proposed meal tax.
Including in-store petitions and billfold inserts, the No Meal Tax campaign – online at www.nomealtax.ca serves up facts and figures on the impact of a new 7% tax on restaurant food, and connects to an online petition.
CRFA would like to thank all participants for helping tell government that customers do not want HST added to their restaurant meals. We continue to encourage our B.C. members and staff to contact their local provincial MLA and federal MP to voice concerns about the new tax’s impact on businesses and jobs.
For more information on the campaign and how to help, visit www.nomealtax.ca or contact CRFA’s Western Canada Vice-President Mark von Schellwitz. He can be reached via email at mark@crfa.ca, or by phone at 604-685-9655 or 1-866-300-7675 (toll free).
