Ensuring young employees are qualified to work anywhere in Saskatchewan is fast and easy with the launch of the Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course (YWRCC) online training program.
In July 2009, Saskatchewan Advanced Education, Employment & Labour Minister Rob Norris established a general minimum working age of 16, and allowed younger people to work provided certain conditions are met, including parental consent and employment standards training.
Effective Mar. 31, 2010, 14- and 15-year-olds must complete the YWRCC to work in the province.
Some school divisions offer the YWRCC as part of their curriculum. Alternatively, the YWRCC can be completed entirely online – students can finish the modules, write the test and print their own certificate.
