(Dec. 6/11) Passage of Alberta’s new drinking and driving legislation – Bill 26 – has been delayed a week, due in part to pressure exerted by CRFA, the industry and opposition MLAs. The third and final reading of the Bill has been postponed from Dec. 1, following our outcry that government is ramming this legislation through without proper consultation and debate. The Bill is now expected to pass by Dec. 8.
To date, the government has heard from more than 13,000 Albertans who are concerned Bill 26 targets the wrong people:
The government quickly dismissed a decision by a B.C. Supreme Court Justice who found parts of similar legislation in British Columbia to be unconstitutional. CRFA is imploring the Alberta government to postpone passage of this flawed bill and to take the time to get it right.
