CRFA discusses food safety inspection information in Quebec

(Feb. 18/10) CRFA is meeting with Deputy Minister Madeleine Fortin to discuss MAPAQ’s (Ministere de l’Agriculture, des Pecheries et de l’Alimentation du Quebec) re-evaluation of its website information on food safety inspection results in restaurants.

MAPAQ only provides information on fines, but is now considering reporting methods used in other jurisdictions. For example, MAPAQ has studied Toronto’s red/yellow/green grading system for restaurant inspections, where green is a pass, yellow is a conditional pass and red is a fail.

CRFA is in favour of more transparency and additional information on MAPAQ’s site, but opposes a grading system. In our meeting with Minister Fortin, we will learn more about MAPAQ’s plans and see how we can collaborate in finding a solution that works for the industry and our customers.
