CRFA identifies alcohol permits as red tape priority in Quebec

(May 6/11) CRFA presented alcohol permits as a key issue for restaurants at a new red tape review committee initiated by Economic Development Minister Clément Gignac.

Many rules and regulations on alcohol permits date from before 1980. Additionally, some CRFA members have to contend with as many as five permits per establishment. CRFA is calling for a simplified system that better reflects today’s restaurant, hotel and bar industry.

In 2000, the governing body on permits – the Régie des alcools, des jeux et des courses du Québec (RAJCQ) – suggested a two- permit system: one to sell alcohol (from a bar and wine cellar) and one to serve (for patrons that bring their own wine and beer). For the last 10 years, CRFA has fought for this simpler system, and will continue to do so.
