(Oct. 17/12) The federal government has announced the Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry in Canada will expand to include mobile payments. A preliminary addendum to the Code was released for public consultation.
CRFA’s feedback will aim to ensure that purchases made with new technologies – such as smartphones – are subject to rules around transparency and merchant choice. We will fight to ensure that:
We will also push to change other parts of the Code to make it more effective in curbing unfair practices by payment card providers.
Other action
On Sept. 25, CRFA hosted a meeting of like-minded business associations to share information, discuss common concerns and explore avenues for collaboration to achieve a fairer payment system for merchants.
