Dear Minister:

I am writing to you as a follow up the public meeting held with business owners to discuss the HST on July 25, 2012.  During this meeting the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA), representing the 328 foodservice operators on PEI, raised the issue of the treatment of beverage alcohol during the harmonization process.
Given the technical nature of the issue, you asked that I meet with your officials to outline the issue.  For your information I have enclosed a copy of the letter outlining the issue that was sent to your officials.
As you are well aware, CRFA and the foodservice industry foodservice industry are strong, vocal supporters of the government’s decision to harmonize the PST and GST on PEI.  The industry wants to ensure our enthusiasm for harmonization is not dampened by any actions taken by the PEILCC that could lead to an increase in beverage alcohol taxes and higher prices for alcohol purchased by licensees.
I trust your government will follow through in the true spirit of harmonization so that both foodservice businesses and our customers can benefit.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Luc Erjavec,
Vice-President, Atlantic
