Important note: Due to methodological problems, 2009 sales and growth rates for the commercial foodservice industry are estimates based on CRFA’s econometric model of the foodservice industry, and therefore should be used with caution. CRFA believes the foodservice sales growth rates produced by Statistics Canada were overstated given the current economic climate, and this view was reinforced by other industry data sources. Statistics Canada has responded that it is possible the number of business closures is being underestimated and is looking into this situation. CRFA’s 2009 estimates will be replaced with Statistics Canada’s data once the revised 2009 data are released. The menu inflation rates for 2009 were not affected by the above methodological problems.
