Quebec’s $11.5-billion foodservice industry is a major contributor to the provincial economy, and has the potential to create even more jobs, more investment and more dining destinations. From larger chains to independent restaurants, we are a leading buyer of local agricultural products and home to nearly a quarter of a million jobs. We are uniquely positioned to contribute to the economy of every Quebec community.
Over the past several years, however, serious challenges have plagued restaurant and foodservice operators. Some of these – like sluggish tourism and mounting labour shortages – are not unique to Quebec, but government must do more to limit the rising cost of doing business in the province. We must work together to ensure the viability and growth of this valuable industry.
